Some additional notes were added to the article since its first release:

If you want to test DCOM connections without setting up an NT domain, you can do so by signing on to the client and the server machines with the same name and password. In other words, you can connect via DCOM from a Windows 95 to an Windows NT machine without setting up a domain so long as you are signed on to both machines with the same name and password.

Dan Miser was kind enough to add this note: If you want to use peer-to-peer, or a Novell network, and don't have access to an NT server, you can use share-level access and change the registry setting:
