Diamondback Rumors

Some rumors I read in the NGs and blogs last night:

Rumor: "I hope Diamondback is more than just Delphi 7 and Delphi 8 combined"
Fact: Way more. If it were just 7 & 8 combined, we'd just call it "Garter Snake"

Rumor: "Diamondback will be two IDEs one for Win32 and one for .NET"
Fact: Diamondback will be a single IDE :o)

Rumor: "Diamondback will include ECO for ASP.NET, Refactoring, and Unit Testing"
Fact: Thats just scratching the surface...

Rumor: "Danny, JohnK, Corbin, Jim and Allen are hotshots"
Fact: Heck ya

Rumor: "DiamondBack will be the best development tool in the world"
Fact: Alright, who broke their NDA? Someone call security please.

Two thirds of that is true for Diamondback. There is a chance that all of it could eventually happen, so it's a rumor with potential.

I'm afraid that, although I would very much like to, I cannot confirm this rumor. Tkitchensink has been one of the most widely requested features since Delphi 3. Every development cycle we hope to finish and include Tkitchensink, but it is such a huge feature that every year we make just a little more progress. The team very much wants the world to see Tkitchensink. Delphi 6 was the obvious exception when, as we all know, a partially functional pre-release of Tkitchensink was accidentally included in the final CDs. Fortunately only a few thousand copies were shipped before we caught the apocalyptic error. We have had 130 developers dedicated 24x7 to Tkitchensink since November of 1997. We affectionately call them "TeamKitchensink". They are by far the smartest and most talented developers at Borland and, as most believe, in the world. It's been suggested that perhaps this isn't the best use of development resources. But when Tkitchensink is completed sometime around July of 2031, it will have been well worth it.

Ok so only 2 of the 3 are included in Diamondback. My money is on Delphi for .NET and C# Builder being merged under the BDS ide. The question really remains whether Borland will be including VB as well. Any truth in that?

Diamondback won't include any more VB support than is in Delphi 8. In D8 you can compile, write, and debug VB.NET code. But we don't supply a code dom, so two-way tools, form designers, wizards, and code insight, don't work with VB.NET.

Just for the record, Diamondback WILL include the Kitchen Sink. I'm making sure of it.
